Janice has been interested in music since public school where she learned to play clarinet.  During the summers when in college, she played in a community band, joined the musicians union and got paid!  While at Indiana University, she was accepted into the IU Summer Band.  Janice joined the BCB in either 1978 or 1979. The band was practicing in the Jaycees building off Kinser Pike at that time.  BCB was a very small group then, maybe a dozen people.

Janice came to Bloomington to attend graduate school in 1971.  She grew up in Illinois, and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.  Janice majored in American history with a minor in library science. She now works at IU’s Main Library, cataloging books and media, and is involved with team-training the dorm libraries’ cataloger.

For hobbies, Janice is a crafter.  She does 1-2 craft shows in the fall, selling cards, florals, and ornaments.  Her interests also include photography, calligraphy and needlework.

Profile: Don Talbott, Website Manager:

Don has volunteered to maintain the band’s website.  Recently, he established the band’s friends e-mail list.  And, Don has added links to other band sites since January 2004.

Through the years, Don has learned to play several brass instruments along with  the guitar.  Don started playing in the 7th grade with the cornet, but switched to horn in high school where he performed in the concert band and a horn quartet.  Besides the horn, he played the sousaphone in his high school jazz band.  Don learned to play the classical guitar after graduating from high school.  He joined the Bloomington Community Band in 1999 and began playing the tuba.

Don is an Indiana University database administrator for the College of Arts and Sciences.  He has been with the university for 17 years.

Besides performing, Don enjoys attending concerts, reading, traveling and sleeping.
