NEW BOARD MEMBERS:

Treasurer:   Todd Yampol

Todd Yampol grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and has also lived in California, Ohio , and Japan.   He moved to Bloomington in 2002; his wife is a graduate student at IU in Japanese history.

Todd’s background is in linguistics, but he has always worked with computers.   Currently he works for IU on the core administrative computing systems.

He comes from a musical family.   His mother still sings and dances in Tucson; and his father and older brother both played the tenor saxophone.   Todd played piano from age 7 through college.   In 1993 while in Kyoto, Japan, he took up the tenor saxophone.   Todd says, “In those days, I could be heard practicing my scales along the banks of the Kamogawa River.”   Todd has since added soprano sax, flute, and bass clarinet.

He enjoys playing and listening to all types of music, especially jazz.   Todd is currently a member of the Bloomin’ Winds, a wind chamber music group, and is also forming a jazz quintet.

Todd says about his experience with BCB, “It has become a very important part of my life here in Bloomington.”

Property Manager:   Les Szigethy

Les grew up in New Jersey and attended college there.   After completing a BA and MA in music, he moved to Indiana to work on a Doctorate.   While in Indiana during the 70's he taught music, played in nightclubs, and generally got lost in Brown County, the Doctorate a casualty of the times.   He moved back to New Jersey during the 80's to take over his father's building business.   While there he joined the musicians union, played in the casinos, and remembered why he left New Jersey in the first place.   Les and his wife Barbara moved back to Indiana in 1993, and currently own LSI Homes, a building business.   Besides his love of music, Les is a voracious reader, enjoys gourmet beer, and smiles every time he thinks of his kids, Mandy and Steve.

Personnel Manager:   Becky Robbins

Becky is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina.   She came to Bloomington to attend IU’s School of Music to study piano and clarinet.   After receiving her undergraduate degree in music, with a double major in Latin and Greek, she decided to go to law school.   She practiced law for 16 years, retiring to write fiction and nonfiction.

Becky was principal clarinet in her high school wind ensemble and orchestra.   During her senior year in high school, she performed a concerto with band accompaniment in the lobby of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.    Becky played piano as a hobby after becoming a lawyer, but she had to sell her clarinet to buy a car to get to court.   In late 2003, when her daughter began playing trumpet in her school band, Becky took up the clarinet again.   Besides playing with the BCB, Becky plays with a woodwind quintet, Bloomin’ Winds, along with duets and ensembles with family members.
